Working In a Secondhand Bookstore

I love talking about, being around and getting to learn about all sorts of books. I am lucky enough to work in a locally owned and independently operated used bookstore. My home town unfortunately has no new release bookstores but our bookstore is perfect for every book lover because it has such a special charm.

Used bookstores are a wonderful opportunity to come home with a book that you have never heard of with the potential to leave a lasting impression on you forever. In some cases we take a chance on that 4.00 dollar mass paperback and aren't always successful but that's ok because you can trade it back in for a completely different book. Used bookstores based on donations are so interesting because every box of books comes with a unique story and a special memory attached to those books.

Often times used bookstores can be small, intimate and slightly overwhelming with stack of books everywhere. My favorite part of the day is when someone approaches me for help and I can potentially help them find what they are looking for or I can introduce them to something entirely new.

Books create a wonderful bridge between strangers and bookstores offer a chance to socialize with someone who may or may not share similar interests as you. These connections are priceless and hard to come by in a big Barnes and Noble store. Taking your time with a cup of coffee and browsing through every section possible is the perfect weekend afternoon in my opinion.
