Even an avid reader hits a reading slump. Sometimes it's been months or even years since we picked up a book that we truly engage with. I fully believe that we go through life in different mindsets. As we continue to live in a time of transition we sometimes feel like we have to catch up a bit or feel the need to reset. A great book is the perfect way to do that.

Here are some great ways to pick up a book during a time when we can't seem to focus:
Try a genre that you have never read before. I suggest graphic novels, essays or poetry especially because they are generally shorter commitments.
Give the book 50 pages and if it still does not interest you, give it up and try something else. There is nothing wrong with doing this a few times if you have to.
Try rereading a past favorite. A familiar comfort book that we have fond memories with can be a great reminder of our joy or reading a certain genre or author.
Audiobooks are wonderful experiences as well. We can listen to a book while performing everyday tasks that allow us to be twice as productive. Audiobooks are also very immersive and allow the story to truly come alive.
Pick up a book that you have no knowledge of, any previous judgement of or have been recommended to by someone. Zero expectations are helpful when starting up a new book and can big big surprises.
Reading is a great escape but it can also sometimes feel like work if we feel like we must force ourselves to enjoy every book we pick up. So if you follow these tips I promise that you can begin a better reading journey.
