How To Pick Your Next Book

Do you every have trouble picking out your next read? I definitely do and have tried several tricks to help this process along. I have put all of my TBR on little pieces of paper in a jar and picked randomly. I have set monthly lists that I try to stick to. I have attempted to read books that were similar to a recent favorite. Honestly most of these tricks never work and I end up just feeling the vibes out and seeing what sticks.

My advice when trying to pick out a book, whether you just finished a string of great books or you haven't picked up a book in years are looking for something to spark that interest, is to do these 3 things:
Pick something that holds your attention for the entire synopsis on the back or inside cover.
Pick something that aesthetically pleases you (yes it is ok to judge by its cover in this case)
Pick something that was recommended to you by a friend or family member or even a stranger on the internet.
Being a mood reader can be super fun or super annoying. A recent fav will almost certainly outshine the next book similar to it because it is really hard to recapture the same exact magic. I often pick something completely different as my next read. Switching up genres is really helpful. Which means it's really important to try things outside your comfort zone every now and then. It is totally ok to stick to a specific area of interest but if you are having a hard time picking your next book, try something completely new.
I hope this helps and you can capture some magic in the next book you pick up after reading this!
